In honour of International Women’s Day we celebrate women travelling on the road.
A large number of our customers are women, and a large proportion of these are travelling alone around Australia having the adventures of their life.
Joyce found that her Horizon Motorhomes Banksia was exactly the right motorhome for her gypsy lifestyle . It is the right size, the right colour, easy to drive, easy to park and can take her anywhere. Some 53,000+ kilometres later Joyce remains happy with her choice – she hasn’t had any trouble whatsoever and for anyone, especially a woman travelling alone, that is vitally important.
Having raised a family and run her own business, Joyce says her ‘GYPSY’ plated motorhome allows her the freedom to go wherever she likes for as long as she likes. She’s not travelling totally alone, she travels everywhere with her dog Amber and they make a lot of friends on the way.
Joyce’s sense of fun is infectious and she encourages other women to get out on the road to explore this beautiful country that has so many different places to explore and special things to see. “Ladies, if you have a hankering to do this, just get out there and do it – there are plenty of us on the road, all looking out for each other”.
Joyce adds: “The only thing that is daunting is the thought of getting organised to do it, but once you get going you won’t want to stop”.
The trends suggest Australian women are increasingly embracing independent travel. According to a TripAdvisor report, 1 in 3 women makes plans to travel alone. The study of over 3,200 Australian women found that the majority felt more independent and free when travelling alone.
The report found the ideal state for independent travel is New South Wales, followed closely by Victoria and Queensland.
Do you know any independent women on the road? Let us know, we would love to hear about their adventures!
